Scheidegger Webpublishing is a Swiss sole proprietorship based in Bern. One person, one workshop, and websites that have to be kept running.
Position
Why a house rather than an agency
An agency sells projects. It delivers, it invoices, it moves on. The model works, but it produces a remarkable number of sites that die eighteen months after launch, for want of anyone looking at them.
A publishing house keeps its titles. It answers for them. That is the relationship we have with our own sites, and the one we offer our clients: a website is not a delivery, it is an undertaking to keep it open.
This forces some thankless technical choices and an honest maintenance invoice. In exchange, nobody has ever had to tell us that a certificate had expired.
Scope
What we actually do
- Presentation sites for freelancers, associations and small firms.
- Editorial sites: magazines, long-form files, guides, with the structure that goes with them.
- Multilingual versions, written rather than run through a machine.
- Taking over an existing site that nobody maintains any more.
- Hosting, backups, certificates and updates, on a yearly flat fee.
What we do not do
- Large online shops, from a few hundred products up.
- Line-of-business software and customer areas with user accounts.
- Search rankings sold on results, which cannot be bought.
- Advertising campaigns and social media management.
